Prof. Dr. Albrecht Neeße

Albrecht Neeße is a Principal Investigator in SP10 and a member of the Selection Committee.

His research focus lies on the tumor microenvironment and alterations of the microbiome and metabolome in hepato-pancreato-biliary diseases. In particular, his group is interested in the crosstalk of the microbiome/metabolome and the immune system and how to exploit this knowledge for future diagnostic and therapeutic approaches in patients. Prof. Neeße has initiated multiple clinical trials and coordinates the first global microbiome consortium on inflammatory disorders of the pancreas (P-MAPS).

Prof. Neeße has been regularly teaching medical students since 2010 and has taken part in board examinations since 2018. He was a member of the research commitee of the UMG from 2020-2023, a member of the Scientific Committee of the United European Gastroenterology from 2020-2024, and was appointed Editor in Chief of United European Gastroenterology Journal in January 2025.
